EarSketch:
Accessibility User Experience Research
Designing a computer science + music learning environment for visually impaired students.
This UX research study was conducted as part of a two-year seed grant project funded by GT-Microsoft Accessibility Research Seed Grants Program in order to make EarSketch more accessible to people who are blind or visually impaired.
The goal of this research study was to evaluate the accessibility of the EarSketch platform for people with visual impairments. We aimed to discover the pain points and barriers using the EarSketch application and determine how these pain points and barriers could be addressed.
The EarSketch Accessibility research study consisted of six participants: five with little or no functional vision that access digital content using screen readers, and one with low vision accessing digital content using magnification.
The participants took part in remote user experience (UX) research sessions via Zoom’s online meeting platform. After each task, they were asked follow-up questions in order to measure ease of use and gather improvement suggestions.
