David Fazio

David Fazio

David Fazio is a survivor of a softball sized hemorrhagic stroke that left him completely paralyzed on the entire left half of his body, blind in the left half of each eye, and with severe cognitive impairments, all at the age of 13. He is an Invited Expert to the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Accessibility Initiative Accessibility Guidelines Working Group, Accessible Platform Architectures Working Group, Cognitive and Learning Disabilities Accessibility Task Force, and Silver Task Force.

David specializes in cognitive, and neuropsychological, design. His inclusive design strategies revolve around his philosophy that every human being is unique; that each of us has a distinctive set of sensory and functional capabilities, as well as meaningful life experiences, while at the same time, there are ways in which all people are alike. There are essential aspects of the human experience, such as birth, death, love, struggle, and emotion, that are shared by everyone. David believes that inclusive design can engage everyone with their strongest combination of knowledge, senses and abilities, while also supporting our essential human needs, to achieve spectacular results.

His vision is materialized in the founding, and day to day operations, of Helix Opportunity, an inclusive design consulting, training, and product development firm. Through Helix Opportunity, David facilitates inclusion in the workplace and consumer marketplace.
