ICT Accessibility Study

MEASURING THE SUCCESS OF ICT ACCESSIBILITY

Using quantitative and qualitative data from the Georgia Tech Online Course "Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Accessibility," this study will examine students’ experiences with, and attitudes and perceptions toward, ICT accessibility. Effectiveness and quality of the online course will also be evaluated.

The first-of-its-kind online course focuses on disabilities in the workplace. The course, ICT 100x, will bring awareness to information and communication barriers for people with disabilities. Learners will measure an organization’s ICT accessibility and ways to maintain an inclusive workplace for both employees and customers with disabilities. The self-paced online course is open for enrollment on EdX.org and is free. The suggested pace is about six weeks. Each module will be taught by AMAC Accessibility experts through videos, activities, and discussions.

This corresponding study seeks to answer the following research questions:

  • What are the ICT Accessibility challenges and barriers for employees and customers in corporate, government, and nonprofit organizations?
  • What are the ICT Accessibility challenges and barriers for people with disabilities, their family members, and their service providers?
  • What are the perceptions and experiences of incorporating ICT Accessibility practices in a corporate environment?

The study will rely on two sources of data: a pre-course survey and a post-course survey. Students in the course will opt into the research study. They will be asked to complete a pre-survey at the beginning of the course. At the end of the course study participants will be asked to complete a post-survey. Data will be collected by EdX on the students' experiences taking the online course.
