We offer several classes and on-demand services for professionals who want to learn how to make documents and environments accessible. We also run government-level initiatives that produce educational assets for Georgia and the nation.
Creating Accessible Office Documents
Course Description: Documents that are designed and developed using accessibility guidelines and best practices are documents that can be used by people with disabilities, users of assistive technology, and are beneficial for all users. In this course, you will learn the best practices for creating accessible Microsoft Office documents, how people with disabilities access digital content, how to check your documents for accessibility, and how to save accessible source documents as accessible PDFs.
Topics include:
- How individuals use assistive technology with Microsoft documents
- How to create accessible Microsoft Word documents and PowerPoint presentations
- Using the tools available to check document accessibility and integrate them into your workflow
- Identifying accessibility issues specific to Excel and Outlook
- Exporting accessible source documents to create accessible PDFs
Digital Accessibility Testing & Compliance
Course Description: An overview of the various methods in which people with disabilities frequently access digital content including websites is provided, including a demo of screen reading technology. The legal landscape related to digital content and the importance of mobile testing are highlighted, as well as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, WCAG 2.0 and recently released WCAG 2.1 guidelines. Learn more about manual testing methods and code inspection tools when evaluating digital content.
Topics include:
- Identifying barriers people with disabilities may face when accessing digital content with assistive technology
- Understanding how accessible content enables successful use of assistive technology
- Understanding the legal framework around digital content and accessibility
- Recognizing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and the need to implement them
- Conduct basic manual and automated accessibility testing
AccessGA
AccessGA is an initiative of the State of Georgia ADA Coordinator’s Office, the Center for Inclusive Design & innovation (CIDI), and the Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) Digital Services Georgia
AccessGA provides educational resources including newsletters, webinars, and trainings to promote equitable and timely access to digital content and online resources for citizens, employees, students, and clients with a wide range of disabilities.
Web Accessibility Group (WAG)
Brings together individuals in higher education seeking to navigate the complex requirements of Section 508 and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0.
WAG currently offers web accessibility information and assistance through our wiki, listserv, and monthly online meetings and webinars.
Tools For Life
Tools for Life, Georgia's Assistive Technology Act Program, provides education and training to groups and organizations wanting to know more about disabilities, assistive technology (AT), and other related topics and offers online professional development to help individuals learn more about assistive technology strategies and solutions as well as the most recent information on AT devices and disability related issues and trends.
